I don’t bake as often as I cook so I thought it would be fun to participate in the group Tuesdays with Dorie where a couple of times each month you try recipes out of her new cookbook Baking Chez Moi. Figured I’d learn some new things and get to eat some great desserts which are both good reasons to be part of the group! So, last week I made the first recipe – cookies named Palets de Dames. Palet means puck in French which is what these look like after they’re baked.
Here are some photos I took while making the recipe, which by the way, is very simple and easy to follow. Here’s the batter before it goes into the refrigerator:
Here are the cookies after they’ve been baked without icing:

Finally, here are a couple of Palets de Dames that I enjoyed with a poached pear:
The overall verdict after making these is that they’re really good and very easy to make. The combination of the buttery cookie with the lemony icing is really nice and I think they’d be great paired with a fruit dessert (like the poached pears) or just a cup of coffee or tea. I’ll definitely be making these again in the not too distant future.
Lovely cookies! Love the poached pear too! Welcome to the fun of Tuesdays with Dorie – mary

Thank you! I’m going to make some more and have some with my Mariage Freres Esprit de Noel tea which is my favorite. The first batch didn’t last long enough 🙂

I agree with you, Cher. I think one thing that I really liked about this recipe was that even though they were very easy to do they tasted like they weren’t 🙂

Haha 🙂 I think you really could do a lot with this recipe – change the icing flavoring a bit to go with different foods. Lime juice might be interesting to try. I think they’d be nice with ice cream and berries too.

I’d say you did just great on these cookies. I didn’t know how to bake much when I joined the first TWD group and I learned so much from that group and baking each week…I hope you find the same! A great beginning indeed. 🙂

Thanks, Kayte! That’s actually one of the reasons I thought I’d do this. I’m not bad at baking – I like doing pies – but I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn a lot of new things that I haven’t done before. Hard to go wrong with any of Dorie’s recipes 🙂
